Charges laid over child sexual abuse
A man will appear in court today charged following an investigation into the alleged sexual abuse of a young boy in the state’s north west.
Earlier this month, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation following reports a young boy had been sexually abused by a man who was known to him.
Following inquiries, officers arrested a 44-year-old man at a home near Inverell just after 2pm yesterday (Tuesday 5 May 2020).
The man was taken to Inverell Police Station, where he was charged with intentionally sexually touch child (between 10 and 16 years), two counts of aggravated sexual intercourse child (between 10 and 14 years), attempt aggravated sexual intercourse child (between 10 and 14 years) and intentionally do sexual act with child (between 10 and 16 years).
Police will allege in court that the man sexually abused an 11-year-old boy on multiple occasions at a home at Inverell in April this year.
He was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today (Wednesday 6 May 2020).
