Fire shuts down Tamworth pharmacy
At around 5am this morning, two crews from Fire and rescue 448 South Tamworth attended a fire at the Betterhealth and Discount Drug store on Robert Street in South Tamworth.
The fire is believed to have been deliberately lit and started in the doctors surgery following an alleged break and enter.
The fire was put out by a security guard who used a fire extinguisher. The building was ventilated by firefighters and a thermal imaging camera was used to check for hotspots and fire extension in the roof void.
Firefighters from Fire and Rescue report there was a small amount of damage from heat and smoke, and police have a person of interest in custody.
Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Tom Cooper said the security guards efforts with a fire extinguisher was outstanding.
Sue Thatcher of Betterhealth Drug and Discount Store took to social media to say the Pharmacy couldn't operate today, and is advising patients to return tomorrow so Police can investigate the matter.
Shge said there is a pharmacist on site today, but the whole of the rear of the arcade is closed. If you could wait until tomorrow for scripts that would be great” she said in the statement.
