Recognising ordinary people who do extraordinary work

Tamworth Regional Council is calling for nominations for the 2020 Community Volunteer of the Year Awards which will recognise the volunteers in our community and the extraordinary work they do. The awards are open to both individual nominees and volunteer groups/organisations. Tamworth Regional Council Coordinator of Volunteer Services, Veronica Filby said: “As any Australian knows without hardworking volunteers, many of our community opportunities would cease to exist”. The 2020 Community Volunteer of the Year awards will be announced in May to coincide with National Volunteer Week. “People in the community take it for granted that volunteers are the ones who organise the local soccer competition, the Bunnings Barbeque or even the local agricultural show. Without these volunteers, our community would miss out on a lot of opportunities and this is our chance to thank them for their hard work,” said Ms Filby. The theme for this year’s National Volunteer Week is “Changing Communities. Changing Lives” and the 2020 Community Volunteer Awards are a chance to recognise the volunteers for their service and the changes they have made to the community. Nominations for the 2020 Tamworth Regional Community Volunteer of the Year awards are now open and will close on Thursday 16 April at 5pm.
