ROUNDABOUT REMOVES HEAVY VEHICLES FROM GUNNEDAH CBD

A new roundabout in Gunnedah is taking trucks off the main street and building on plans to ensure a better flow for freight operators.

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said the $4.5 million project at the intersection of the Oxley Highway and Boundary Road will divert heavy vehicle traffic away from the centre of town.

“This project has been carried out by Gunnedah Shire Council and has sustained about 59 local jobs from the start of the project in October 2019, with 10 local contractors working to complete the roundabout last month.

“This project formalises the use of Bloomfield Street as a heavy vehicle bypass and is part of a package of road and rail improvements being carried out in Gunnedah. This includes the new Gunnedah overpass, which is due to be completed next year and addresses a major freight pinch point in the North West.

“I want to congratulate Gunnedah Shire for their hard work completing this project and utilising local workers and contractors.

“These projects support regional growth, economic development and liveability making Gunnedah an even more attractive place to live and invest.
