Severe thunderstorm hits Tamworth region and surrounds

The SES responded to over 60 calls for help from the community with Oxley Vale, the hardest hit. The SES confirmed residents in West Tamworth, East Tamworth, North and South also called for help as trees were down in Coledale, Duri Road and Wallamore Road while Scott Road, Goonoo Goonoo Road, Ebsworth Street, Barnes Street and parts of Peel Street were affected by flash flooding.

Essential Energy also worked through the afternoon and evening to restore power to Oxley Vale, Westdale, Taminda, Kingswood, Barraba, Manilla and Timbumburi after power lines went down.

20 mm of rain fell at the airport, while other rain gauges in the region reported over 40 mm.
