Total Fire Ban Today
Hot and windy conditions have seen Fire and Rescue NSW declare a total fire ban for today for the New England, Northern Slopes, and North Western regions as heatwave conditions sweep the state.
The North Western council areas have been declared as 'severe' fire danger, while the Northern Slopes and New England areas have been rated as 'very high'.
From midnight last night, the ban covers Glen Innes Severn, Tenterfield, Uralla, Walcha and Armidale; Gunnedah, Gwydir, Inverell, Liverpool Plains and Tamworth; as well as the Moree Plains, Narrabri, Walgett, Warrumbungle areas.
The Rural Fire Service said it may issue a Harvest Safety Alert for areas of heightened risk.
Harvest operators should monitor conditions and regularly check that they are operating within guidelines.
