UPDATE: Man's body found near Tamworth
Police have released some extra information after the body of a man, believed to be 55 years old was found about 11.35am yesterday, including it appears the body lay undiscovered for days.
Oxley Police District crime manager, Acting Inspector, Jason Darcy was unable to provide extensive details but said "It's been days so I can't comment any further, but it's only early stages."
He said the man was still unidentified, but was "confident" he would be identified by the end of the day today.
Officers attached to Oxley Police District were called to a rest area on the New England Highway, Goonoo Goonoo, following reports of a concern for welfare and upon arrival, located the body .
Officers also observed drawers within the van were open and a generator previously been seen at the site was missing.
While it’s not known if the man’s death is suspicious, detectives have established an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and are appealing for anyone who may have dashcam footage taken in the area or who may have seen the vehicle at the rest stop to contact police.
