Virgin Australia has withdrawn from all negotiations to establish a pilot training academy at Tamworth airport.
The company said the decision was made due to significantly altered operating conditions in the travel industry as a result of the Australian bushfires and coronavirus.
Tamworth Regional Mayor Col Murray said while the news is disappointing we will continue to have pilot training in Tamworth.
He said council will go back to the market and put out an expression of interest and has quite a list of parties that have already expressed interest, so that’s a process that will start straight away.
There are two pilot training companies currently operating at the facility - CAE Australia Flight Training and BAE which will end its contract at the end of June.
